Naming Traditions
Hi guys, welcome back to my blog. This time i would like to telling you guys about unique naming tradition by Javanese people.
Javanese people have various way to naming their children, like according to the child's day of birth, month of birth, or even the child's sequences in the family. But i'll only explaining the name according to day of birth, because if i explaining all of it, it'll be a novel haha.
Okay, so in javanese, the day's name are different from normal indonesian day. The normal indonesian day are Senin, Selasa, Rabu, Jumat, Sabtu Minggu. But the javanese days are unique, they are Senen, Selasa, Rebo, Kemis, Jemuah, Setu, Ngahat.
So if the child's born on Monday (Senen) the name will be Senan or Saniman, if it's Tuesday (Selasa) the name will be Lasa or Lasiman, if it's Wednesday (Rebo) the name will be Rebi or Rubinah, if it's Thursday (Kemis) the name will be Misman Or Kemin, if it's Friday (Jemuah) the name will be Jumidi or Jumali, if it's Saturday (Setu) the name will be Saptini or Sabeni), if it's Sunday (Ngahat) the name will be Ngadinah or Ngatiman. Theres still many other examples of name but it'll be too long.
But i think theres only a few people who using this tradition nowadays, because now Javanese parents more likely to use modern name or arabic name to naming their children rather than using old javanese name. I mean who use Jumali to name their child this day? I think no one, but maybe some parents in The remote places will.
Okay guys, thank you for reading this blog, maybe it's a boring topic but at least you learn something haha.....see you in the next post.
